Open Investigation is a true-crime podcast that picks up where the HBO documentary, Have You Seen Andy? left off. Melanie’s search for answers to the disappearance of her childhood leads her to the discovery of dozens of other unsolved missing and murdered children’s cases revealing a network of child exploitation and human trafficking.
On a hot summer day in 1976 10-year-old Andy Puglisi vanished from a public swimming pool. His 9-year-old friend, Melanie, made a promise; when she grew up she would try to find him. In 2008 Melanie Perkins feature-length documentary, “Have You Seen Andy?”, won an Emmy for outstanding investigative journalism after broadcasting to more than 33 million viewers on HBO/Cinemax. But the film’s broadcast and the convergence of social media opened a Pandora’s box of unresolved missing and murdered children’s cases. What Melanie believed was a single story of the tragedy and loss of a childhood friend turned into the story of dozens of unsolved cases of children who had disappeared or were found murdered during the same decade Andy vanished. With unprecedented, detailed investigative research this podcast reveals for the first time the likelihood that several of these unsolved cases are related.
