Angelo “Andy” Puglisi was born on September 2, 1965 to Faith and Angelo Puglisi. He disappeared from a public swimming pool in Lawrence, MA on August 22, 1976. Andy was ten years old when he vanished just two weeks before his 11th birthday. Andy was the oldest of five children when he was taken from his family. Friends and family describe Andy as “the father of the family”, “always willing to help”, “saved my life” and “a good kid”. His brother Michael describes Andy as his best friend. Most of Andy’s project friends remember him with his baby sister, Mandy, always on his hip.
Andy had an olive complexion and tanned quickly in the summer time. The first time Melanie met Andy he and her brother Jeff were playing football. Melanie asked to play but Jeff, a typical older brother, said no. Andy responded if Melanie couldn’t play then he wasn’t playing either. That’s when Melanie’s crush on Andy began. The crush was reciprocated the day Andy was home babysitting his siblings. Melanie sat on his porch talking to him through the door. He invited her in while he handed out chocolate chip cookies to each of his siblings. He came back to Melanie giving her a second cookie (the last one) along with a shy smile.
Andy was so handsome he was almost pretty with high cheekbones, kind brown eyes and a ready smile. His last known actions were offering to help a man look for a lost dog and guiding a four-year-old boy away from would be predators.
Andy’s family, friends and community continue to search for him more than 40 years after he was abducted. We will never give up.
